[lug] CD Burner Problems

I was hoping to get some insight on my CD burner problems.

Since the last time I successfully burned a CD, I have lost /etc in a
hard drive failure (and therefore had to reconstruct it from scratch),
and connected a second IDE CD (reader only) drive to the same controller,
as a slave. Neither drive has any trouble reading CD's. I just burned
a CD-RW with a ~300MB image with no problems. I have reproduced the
problem on 3 different CD-R's (from the same spindle, from which I have
successfully burned several CD's) with a 692MB image and a 603MB image.

Also, the output of cdrecord says that it is writing at speed 10, when I
have specified (through the CDR_SPEED environment variable) '0'.

Here is the output of 'cdrecord -scanbus'--keep in mind that both drives
are IDE, but I use scsi emulation:

greatspacetoaster:~# cdrecord -scanbus
Cdrecord 1.10 (i686-pc-linux-gnu) Copyright (C) 1995-2001 Jörg Schilling

        0,0,0 0) 'YAMAHA ' 'CRW2100E ' '1.0M' Removable CD-ROM
        0,1,0 1) 'ATAPI ' 'CD-ROM DRIVE-24X' 'U41M' Removable CD-ROM
        0,2,0 2) *
        0,3,0 3) *

        0,6,0 6) *

And here is the output when I actually try to burn a CD:
